Please don't bother Dieter. He was worried that the lack of documentation would lead to many questions. Since he was nice enough to let me fool around with it, please be as patient as possible waiting for documentation. Here is an update that addresses several minor issues:

Yace is not necessarily the permanent name of the program (Yet Another Chess Engine).
Yace is definitely a top 20 engine. It played a fascinating game with Amy last night on my home computer. Even though starting as black, Yace had Amy against the ropes for a while. But then Amy pulled a stunner and got the win. Very entertaining game (I sat watching it play until about 2AM).
The first game in this set is the one I refer to. Some other Yace-Amy games are included to show that Yace definitely has big, sharp teeth.

1) I've discovered that Yace loses on time when using 40 moves in x minutes. I wondered if it's only my problem.
2) Where do you put the command xboard. I've tried the yac.ini, WinBoard.ini and no xboard command. No difference encountered. Is it necessary?
3) Yace doesn't acknowledge easy and hard command. Does that mean it plays constantly with permanent brain on or off. If that is the case, which one is it?
4) Are log and hash the only relevant commands for the yace.ini file?
I hope you're able to answer a few of these questions. Yace seems quite strong. It demolished Ant twice within 30 moves in blitz (40/600). It also lost two on time. The debug file didn't tell my why.

I should mention that you must get the latest (as of this morning) from my ftp site. It fixes some small problems, including the losses on time that you saw.

Okay, I didn't know that. It won't make move number 40 within time.
My research pointed in the same direction.
The program seems very capable.
