REGO not running under Linux

Postby Pallav Nawani » 18 Jul 2005, 16:03

Hi,

I have been trying to use Andrew Fan's Java viewer REGO to connect to Chesswar broadcasts under Linux. The viewer starts normally, but after I click connect, I get a screen showing the board at starting position with no engines, etc. It just doesn't seem to connect.

Has anybody else gotten it to work?

Hi Pallav,
I've tried to connect to the Chesswar broadcast many times, both from Windows and Linux, and using native and Java clients. I was never able to connect, but I think it depends on a firewall somewhere in my ISP network that blocks the datagram packets. :(

Hi Alessandro and Pallav :)

- Tom Likens posted yesterday a way to use TLCV under Linux, this may holp...

- Alessandro, it's a pity you can't connect :( Please note tthat the port 16043 needs to be open in UDP mode - but I am no expert at all when the topic is firewall !

I forgot to point out that Tom Likens posted the hint at CCC.

Pallav,

Here's the relevant info cut from my CCC message (it was quickly swamped by other posts).

Just thought I'd pass this on in case anyone else is interested. I just
installed Tom McBurney's online chess viewer under Linux using CrossOver
Office 4.2. I initially tried vanilla wine, but even after copying over
the "MSVBVM60.DLL" library (which was missing from my default wine setup)
it still didn't function correctly. For reference, my setup:

SUSE 9.3 Pro
CrossOver Office 4.2 Pro (although the standard ver. should work fine)
Tom's Live Chess Viewer ver. 2.01

Hopefully, this will help you get going. BTW, I couldn't get REGO to work under
Linux either, which is why I started experimenting with wine and CrossOver Office.

Hi Tom,
I have seen your post on CCC and I got your email as well (I replied to you as well, did you get my email?). Thanks to you and Olivier for trying to help us out. I will see if I can get Crossover office and try your method.

Where is Andrew Fan? Its his job to make REGO work! ;)

Got Rego to work, finally.

Hi,

I was able to get Rego to work. 8-) Firewall was blocking all ports except the ones used commonly (for browsing etc). I opened port 16043 for UDP and all was fine. So the problem was at my end
