Hello:
I think that it is the time to recognize the work done by Carlos Pesce during the last months especifically and his contributions as a "booker" of several winboard engines.
I could not remember now how many engines Carlos has helped with his books. I can only remember now: Sjeng, Patriot, The Baron, Yace, Averno, Chezzz, Leila, SmarThink...
I propose to give him the "Winboard Oscar 2004" for his valuable contribution in the opening books area for all these engines.
Go on your fantastic work, Carlos!

Regards, Arturo Ochoa.

Hi!
Many thanks, Arturo!
But i think that the "Oscar" must be for Fabien Letouzie (Fruit and Polyglot)
or many of the latinamerican prograamers and bookbuilders (as you!), only we know the effort that cost to keep in our nice hobby.
Regards
Carlos Pesce

Carlos, you are a too modest man. You really deserved one Oscar! Fabien will get the next one :-)
Cheers,
Dieter

Hello Carlos,
Of course Dieter is correct on this one, as he is most of the times.
He should know what modesty looks like. I cannot choose amongst Dieter, Tord, Fabien and Richard just who deserves the Modesty Oscar for understated achievement.
I suppose I could ask Dann Corbit to choose but.....hmmm, Dann is in the runnings too!
You would never guess that there was so much quiet genius lurking at the Forum...

We should not forget George or Leo. Those carefully run contests make fabulous data. And Igor Gorelikov is producing some very valuable things. I think it a good idea to categorize. Best opening book contributions. Best new engine. Best long time control chess contest. Best chess web site. Best chess utility. And if two people are deserving, Volker can use his special magic to find a spare Oscar.
My shelf is full.
