Round 12:
Amateur 2.80 0111 3.0/4
The Baron 1.3.0b3 1000 1.0/4

I would have been a wee bit more satisfied with a draw in there somewhere but Amateur is a very tough opponent for Baron in my tests....
Ah well...

Did someone tell Ruffian something? It's getting all ferocious and all.

It's a pretty wild tournament, lots of tough games. I wouldn't have expected this result, needless to say.

Oh Will, that was the cruellest cut of all! Do you really mean to say that you begrudge the Baron the one game?

Funny guy. For the record, I meant that Baron is certainly capable of smashing Amateur.

Hello Will,
I could not help but notice that Amateur's remaining schedule is somewhat easier than the Baron's - which places your engine in a really good position to push for promotion.
Do you have the bubbly on ice?
:-)
I think Slowchess has created the ever vital degree of separation between itself and the pack.
The game is far from over. I just hope the Baron does better over the final stretch.
Leo has done it again - has me biting my fingernails down to the elbows.
All the best.

I do not know.
It seems that all the programs are almost equal strength and only luck decides.
The leader is slowchess.
The last place is resp.
Movei beated slowchess 2.5-1.5
Movei lost against resp 2.5-1.5
both programs were not upgraded but in the previous tournament they scored almost the same.

I really agree here. I've ran elostat on the game played and this was the result:

Program                          Elo    +   -   Games   Score   Av.Op.  Draws
  1 SlowChess 2.89b                : 2456   84 130    44    70.5 %   2305   13.6 %
  2 Movei 0.08.178d                : 2384   92 104    44    62.5 %   2295   20.5 %
  3 KnightDreamer 3.2              : 2373   96  85    44    59.1 %   2309   31.8 %
  4 Phalanx XXII                   : 2370   95 106    44    60.2 %   2298   15.9 %
  5 Gothmog 0.4.7                  : 2368   95  94    44    60.2 %   2296   25.0 %
  6 The Baron 1.3.0b3              : 2367   93  98    48    58.3 %   2308   16.7 %
  7 Amateur 2.80                   : 2355   93  84    48    58.3 %   2296   29.2 %
  8 Amy 0.8.7                      : 2327  100  77    45    55.6 %   2288   35.6 %
  9 Terra 3.3b10                   : 2274   90 103    44    45.5 %   2306   22.7 %
 10 Chezzz 1.0.3                   : 2254   95 103    44    45.5 %   2285   18.2 %
 11 Betsy 6.51                     : 2251   93  99    44    43.2 %   2299   22.7 %
 12 Arasan 7.4                     : 2249  113  96    44    40.9 %   2313    9.1 %
 13 Frenzee 146                    : 2247   89 101    44    44.3 %   2286   25.0 %
 14 Cerebro 1.24                   : 2239   88  99    44    43.2 %   2286   27.3 %
 15 Scidlet 3.6                    : 2238  107  96    44    40.9 %   2302   13.6 %
 16 Ufim 4.04                      : 2229  106  92    45    37.8 %   2316   17.8 %
 17 The CrazyBishop 0050           : 2215   97  92    44    37.5 %   2304   25.0 %
 18 Resp 0.19                      : 2195   94  90    44    35.2 %   2301   29.5 %

Slowchess has a very good position to promote directly to division 1. However, the promotion tournament spots are not decided yet. Movei seems to have the best chances to play for promotion. Then 4 engines within 6 rating points, and Amateur slightly below that. Probably because Amateur didn't play against Slowchess yet. Even Amy still has some chances to participate in the promotion tournament.
Me too. I will try to create an even better version in case a promotion tournament has to be played :-).
Richard.

SlowChess had a bad start last time and seems to have a bit of more luck this time, besides that it use a new (better?) openingbook now!
