Hi Gunther
Is DanChess's problem with bookthinker solved?
I know it has lots of problems in interacting with winboard.
That's on the todo list.
Is updating possible after the open class finishes?

What does the problem look like?
My advice of using only "protocol version 1" with BookThinker also applies to native xboard engines, not just PolyGlot.

I had already send you an e-mail at the same time you posted here :)
The problem was already solved by a somehow ugly workaround with inbetween,
but after the posting of Fabien I tried his solution too and it has
the same effect, thus I use that solution now.
All works fine now and of course you can update in the next class
if you promote.
Best regards,
Günther

Hi Fabien,
You are right! Though I already had a somehow ugly workaround with
inbetween a tool by Odd Gunnar Malin to improve defects in communication
between server and clients, I tried your suggestion and it has the same
positive effect.
The problem was that DanChess always moved nearly immediately after
BookThinker books end, but behaved normally during the rest of the
game and also in every other game after game 1 in multi match mode.
From reading the debugs the conclusion was that DanChess disliked
5 'accepted' commands sent by Winboard and reacted by finishing
its first move just before sending back the 'error' commands
regarding the received 'accepted' commands.
I am not too familiar with the protocol versions of WB, but it seems
that WB in prot version 1 simply doesnt send those 5 commands?
BTW congrats for place 1 so far in my Open Class and thanks again
for Polyglot!

Hi Fabien,
You are right!
That's because I know exactly what goes wrong. I wish everybody followed it (english conditional, I mean from now on)!!!
It's easy to get tricked: it's actually BookThinker that refuses them, not the engine.
Yes, but I don't want to explain the whole reason unless Lance wants to fix the problem. It will be fine with protover 1 (with some minor drawbacks).
Thanks!
Only luck of course (see how poorly it did in Chess War for instance), Jonny (and probably Zappa as well) is much stronger!
Nothing is over, any slip (i.e. miss a win) and Zappa wins :)
Fabien.

Oh, thanks very much.
Well I assumed one had to use Windows-only software to follow the games ...
I actually like positions without the queens, it's not boring at all.
Poor Fruit lacks the knowledge to play them correctly though.
Watching live is too stressful anyway :)
Fabien.

seems you were right about the slip ;)
I guess it is a draw now? Seems we need a Linux client too...

Yes it is dead draw, no need to update.
If all goes well (no more slips ;) ) that's a shared first place with Zappa.
Frankly I think it's fair enough (but too bad for Jonny).

I think we can count on Zappa losing at least one game on time ;)
