Seriously though, this really is a better result than I expected, an engine needs some luck to win over so many participants. Last season I felt Slow was unlucky the first half. Actual strength must be somewhere inbetween.
About the updated book, that probably only helped a little. If I look over engine games (I use the Slow GUI to do this), for the losses I sometimes use my patzer chess ability(+analyze) to add an alternative to the book, or sometimes just remove the line if it looks really bad to me. (I'm sure the Shredder book author would break out laughing at a lot of the lines I have in there.)
