Notebook heating and computer chess

Hello,
I wonder if someone in this list is still using a notebook for chess,
after Ed Seid's heating problems two years ago?
I am using a compaq nx9010, and after a couple of minutes of analysis
or playing, the fan swithches from turning at moderate to turning at
high speed.
I think I shall refrain from doing overnight 8 hours analysis,
but I wonder if would be OK to play a game at 90'+30" with
pondering off to let it cool whilst one thinks?
Thanks much for any comments.
Cheers,
Alfredo Pereira

I did long time overnight matches (sometimes), with my old Pentium III/700 MHz notebook. The fan was annoying at times, but no overheat occured. It was a "Gericom" (a local, but large computer manufacturer).
Now, I have a notebook with Intel Centrino cpu = Pentium M. I have read positive comments on that cpu regarding heat, or overheat problems. Obviously a "cool" cpu. Still, the fan starts (at least for a short time) when I let an engine analyse constantly. I didn't run overnight matches on this computer yet.
I guess when the fan is designed big enough, and a Centrino cpu is used, the risk of an overheat can be estimated being very small. - Of course, it will depend on the overall quality of the notebook, as always.
(I have a TravelMate 662LCi and can recommend it. My best computer ever, so far.)

At times I let run my old P3 650/128 MB notebook
Compaq Armada 500 for 15 hours and longer with
no heating problems at all.
