With the latest results it's clear that only
Djinn, Booot and Dorky fight for 2 free promoting spots,
but Dorky lost an important half point in current round 20
and is also behind in median Buchholz.

Perhaps, I will name my next engine Heracles or Hercules. My scientific investigation has shown, that this is by far the most promising name for a chess engine. It should be be well prepared against BigLion, then. Not only this, also against Anaconda, Hydra and more, it should do well :-)

If someone should have taken 'Heracles' already, you should
consider 'Medusa' too :) (IIRC only Herakles could defeat her)

My investigations have shown, that Medusa is not a good name for a chess engine. I had forseen the the "Angstgegner" engine Perseus already.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medusa_%28mythology%29
The first sentence:
"In Greek mythology, Medusa ("cunning queen"), was the only mortal of the three Gorgon sisters. "
Doesn't start to promising, does it?
Compare to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heracles

As a german (and probably a football fan), you may consider the german
name "Rehhagel", which now translates to "Heracles or Hercules" in Greece !
"Klinsmann" is clearly not most suitable for 2006 at home.
Best,
Matthias.

Hi :-),
LOL, funny thread here, Roger will regret that he has no Internet access currently, although names like Rehhagel and Klinsmann might be not that familiar to him.

As a german (and probably a football fan), you may consider the german
name "Rehhagel", which now translates to "Heracles or Hercules" in Greece !
We are of course drifting totally off topic. If the moderators, or the readers mind this, please tell me. I won't be offended, and will try to restrict myself to more on topic things.
I actually found the name Rehakles, that was given by the press to Rehagel rather funny. But I am no football fan. My titans are called Fausto, Jacques, Eddy, Bernard, Miguel, Jan, Lance ...
Cheers,
Dieter

yes, an engine named simply "Lance" or "Armstrong" does also sound great... maybe with some modifications, "Pawnstrong" or "Queenstrong"... :)
Greets, Thomas
P.S.: This is a great threat... :)

Do you mean the threat of the Heracles against Hydra engine? Or perhaps the thread that helped the Theseus engine (after it consulted the Ariadne engine as a subprocess) to circumvent seemingly deadly threats by the Minotaurus engine?
Cheers,

Gunther, I believe the version of Zappa you have has a config file and support for avoidlines. I would really appreciate it if you would turn off the Marshall Gambit. So far, Zappa has gotten 2 of its losses and now one of its draws due to its complete lack of kingsafety knowledge in this opening.

Hi Anthony,
I will follow your advice, though I think the main problem is
13...Re8?!, which Zappa always prefers in the Marshall line.
BTW how do I write '0-0' in the avoid line for Zappa?
(is it just 0-0 or Kg8/Kg1 or sth else?)
Best regards,
Günther
P.S. I am already curious how Zappa will do soon in Class B :)

Re: Possible pairings last round, for place 4-6

OliThink - Booot
Djinn - Genesis
Dorky - BigLion
Booot and Djinn need only a draw...
The situation is such that I've taken over the keyboard for this message,
(desperate times call for desperate measures). I think Dorky is a fine
engine and I personally like the human Matt, and in other circumstances I
would be rooting for them, but let's make a deal BigLion!!
If there was *ever* a time to unsheath your claws this is it.
Win this one, and one day I will return the favor, when you need it most!!

Only a draw ! I am not surprised. Lions don't eat fruits
Perhaps, I will name my next engine Heracles or Hercules. My scientific investigation has shown, that this is by far the most promising name for a chess engine. It should be be well prepared against BigLion, then. Not only this, also against Anaconda, Hydra and more, it should do well :-)
Yes, but then he will be asked to clean out the stables!
