computer
hash 96M
hashp 12M
cache 4M
drawscore=0
log off
ponder off
book on
book random 1
book width 5
learn 7
resign 5
tbpath=c:\Nalimov
egtb 16M
exit
Hi,
I'm confused. Doesn't "cache 4M" set the egtb cache to 4M?
If that is the case, does "egtb 16M" override?
-Norm
Hi Norm,
No,it's ok to set "egtb 16M"!Why do you think that it will override! In my case I just want Crafty to fit in the 128M required in my tournaments!
As for Kurt,I am very surprised because this crafty.rc works fine for me!

Hi, Weal
Best, Michael

Hi Kurt,
For the second time I post my excellent crafty.rc for you!
Note the parameter "book width 5" and you'll get your answer about the length of the opening line!
Crafty updates it's opening book after every game and also has a positional learning!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask :-)

The egtb 16M is not setting the cache in anyway. The arguements for egtb set the EGTBLimit (the number of pieces). The correct method of doing this is say you have all of the 5 man EGTBs but want to limit it to 4 man, you would enter "egtb 4M". Now in your line you have 16M which there are no 16 man EGTBs, but the way the code is written what will happen is if you have say 6 man EGTBs it will set the EGTBLimit to 5 man. Not what you really want to do if you have 6 man EGTBs. I added a line to the code to test this which would print the EGTBLimit when arguments were added. Below is the result. You can see that I have 6 man EGTBs but it is reduced to 5 man with the 16M argument added to egtb.

found computer opening book file [./bookc.bin].
playing a computer!
hash table memory = 96M bytes.
pawn hash table memory = 12M bytes.
EGTB cache memory = 4M bytes.
draw score set to 0.00 pawns.
pondering disabled.
choose from book moves randomly (using weights.)
choose from 5 best moves.
show book statistics
book learning enabled
result learning enabled
position learning enabled
resign after 5 consecutive moves with score < -5.
6 piece tablebase files found
17712kb of RAM used for TB indices and decompression tables
5 piece tablebase files found
