No. I answer here. I don't see any diagram. I use FF3.0. All links lead to an advertisement page. It doesen't look very good. I hope that is a bug.

Chess Diagram Generator is available at http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/index.php
There's no link to advertisement pages. Maybe host is checking for value of referrer, try to copy link address directly into address bar. Preview images have been re-uploaded

Generated diagram for the position above (1st post) can be accessed via link:

A chess generator should also give the FEN output
with the diagram.

Do mean on the diagram like
Image
or just as text on the page (to be easily copied) ? I'll fix it soon.
There's no much space on small diagrams.

Can it do 10x8 diagrams, from X-FEN or Shredder-FEN input??

No, it can't. Only standard and 960 (Fischer) chess diagrams, but I'll think about the idea.

OK, so I can see it now too. Are you sure valid FRC numbers are from 1-960, and not from 0 to 859? If I type 960 in your generator I get the position that I get when I type 0 in WinBoard, which is clearly the first position you would expect from the algorithm that maps numbers to positions. (It has both Bishops left, and you start with putting down the Bishops.)

I've checked Starting position IDs in Chess960 and fixed to accept 0 as first FRC starting position

Hi webchess,

thank you for providing this service. It seems a pragmatical way to include diagrams in wikis via external image.

I made it easier to use WinBoard as a diagram generator. (Not really a competitor to the one announced here, as it targets a completely different niche: not web based, creating a bitmap file on your local computer.) Version 4.3.14 has a menu item to save the current board display as a bitmap file, which can be used as diagram.

Advantage is that it supports all variants support by WinBoard, including deviating board sizes and fairy pieces. So it is ppossible to do 10x8 diagrams, now.

Main drawback is that WinBoard does not really do a very good job in showing the board coordinates.

If you don't have FEN-code by your hand, it's possible to enter position using short chess notation. Please use parameter position instead of fen:
Code: Select all
position=W: c3,f3,Kd2,Qe4,Bf2,Rg1 B: b6,e6,Kb7,Qc6,Rc7,Nc5;w
where:
    W: white pieces
    B: black pieces
w/b optional, side to move (please notice use of semicolon ; )

pieces are separated by comma (,)
all other settings (piece set, size, colors etc) remain unchanged
Chess Diagram (white to move):
Image
Code: Select all
http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/chessdiag.php?position=w:c3,f3,Kd2,Qe4,Bf2,Rg1 b:b6,e6,Kb7,Qc6,Rc7,Nc5;w

Chess Diagram (black to move):
Image
Code: Select all
http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/chessdiag.php?position=w:c3,f3,Kd2,Qe4,Bf2,Rg1 b:b6,e6,Kb7,Qc6,Rc7,Nc5;b

Chess Diagram with no side to move (some other settings adjusted):
Image
Code: Select all
http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/chessdiag.php?position=w:c3,f3,Kd2,Qe4,Bf2,Rg1 b:b6,e6,Kb7,Qc6,Rc7,Nc5&theme=solid&color1=d1e6e5&color2=656882&color3=000000

In case of typo:

Hello Boys!

I am new to the forum and new to winboard in general, but I found this post and was wondering if there is a newer version out of the Chess diagram generator. I have been playing since my grandpa taught me the rules some years ago now, and am just now getting in to programming with some of my free time so I thought this whole idea looked really cool. If anybody could help navigate me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

A new program, Zugzwang para Windows by Manuel López, for making diagrams has been added to the Chess Diagrams Page. It makes diagrams with True Type chess fonts or saves as jpeg. The program is in Spanish and very easy to use.
