Hello Olivier,

Based on the movements the following appears to be true:

(1) The draw involving England and the United States was a major blow for England.

(2) Argentina beating Nigeria was an unexpected event - or the Elo gain should have been non-existent, correct? I mean, if an NM fails to beat me by 6-0, doesn't he stand to lose points because any NM should be able to wipe the floor with me? Is it that 5-0 would be a more worthy scoreline?

:-)

The games are a foot......ball!

Later.

Hi Roger

It depends on the Elo variant you are using.

With french rules, I won't get any point if I beat a player whose rating is more than 350 points lower than mine, and won't lose any point if I lose against a player whose rating is more than 350 points higher than mine.

FIDE rules are different : if you lose to Anand, you actually will lose points ! When the difference between the two players is more than 350 points, the game will count as if the gap was 350 points and the Indian will probably steal 1 Elo point from you.
