Is SMIRF able to import new Shredders FENs and PGNs ?

Postby Reinhard Scharnagl » 16 Jul 2005, 19:04

Indeed actual SMIRF could import a whole list of proposed FEN extensions concerning Chess960, and of course the PGNs, which are using them, too.
The problematic FEN extension used by the new Shredder (incompatible to X-FEN) is also part of that list.

Nevertheless SMIRF always will save and export FENs and PGNs only compatibly to X-FEN.

And in all cases that would not be a solution for the related compatibility problems e.g. with other GUIs, game databases, online chess servers and PGN viewers.

Why don't you talk to SMK about it? It is the best way to arrive at a solution for the problem.

Of course! That is, why he had all my considerations and thoughts to this at hands in time. But what would you do if being ignored with all your arguments? It has been absolutely impossible to have a compromise into the direction of compatibility. And setting facts by publishing the new protocol has made me talk of it instead of taking it all still silently.
