Passing in xboard alien.

Postby edax » 29 Aug 2012, 10:29

Hello,

I am using xboard alien to play reversi. Passing your turn (playing a 'null' move) is supposed to be made by clicking the opponent clock. However instead of passing my turn, the opponent clock is decremented by one minute. Is there another way to pass my turn ?

Is this in Edit Game mode, or when playing an engine? I have somewhat forgotten how this worked, as it has all been changed in the latest WinBoard versions, while the Alien Edition has remained frozen. In newer WinBoards adjusting the clocks can be done in any mode, but you have to press shift while clicking (and autoFlag has to be off). In older versions only EditGame mode could adjust the clocks, but no Shift key was required. This obviously conflicts with entering null moves.

An alternative would be to type the move (null or pass).

Thanks for your answer,

It happens when playing a game against an Engine.
I tried with autoflag on/off -> no change.
I tried to type a move: 'null', 'pass' or '@@@@' -> nothing happens, my clock is still running. However, if I type a regular move during the game, it works fine.

The only workaround I found is to let the computer play my move... which is not very efficient.
