It seemed to be a good idea to keep new developments and funtionality extensions downward compatible.
How do you think about downward compatibility? Should it be worth to be defended by arguments?

No it does not. "Compatibility" does not make any sense if it is not known compatible with what.
This discussion is totally off-topic. All arguments have been exchanged dozens of times.
