Blackbishop time loss

Postby Tony Thomas » 14 Nov 2006, 08:44

I played about 20 or so games with the v 0.47 of Blackbishop and I find one time loss and thought I should report it. My tournament conditions are rather fast, so it is possible that blackbishop isnt made for those kind of time controls.

Hi Tony,

Yes, me too. I've been testing against new Typhoon build at fast 2mins time control in Arena and Black Bishop has been losing on time occasionally.

Jim.

Hi,

at first you should install BlackBishop as a Winboard under GUIs where it is possible. The UCI protocoll is not very good for such fast games, bacause it sends always all moves again, which costs time to parse them and to recognize if it's a new game or not. Personally i don't like the UCI protocol.

On the other hand i have seen that Arena needs a lot of time for updating infos on the GUI. I have seen cases where the Arena GUI needs about 75% of the time in such fast games like you have played. And this time is stolen from the engine.
The best is you increase the bonus time to a minimum of 2 seconds.

best wishes
Andreas

I meant to install it as a winboard engine, but I did it as a UCI by accident. Since blackbishop is performing very strong at my time control, I am going to let it run as a winboard engine and see what happens.
