SlowChess Blitz WV ??

Postby Anonymous » 01 Mar 2005, 04:56

Is SlowChess Blitz WV an update to the SlowChess Blitz engine, or an update to the gui, or ... ??

I can find nothing on the website or in the download that informs what this "update" consists of.

Hi Dave,
on the Arena website you can find an interview with the author and a lot of information.

I was a bit slow in writing and getting new info up, but a lot has changed to the engine too.

You can check the Arena site, or the Slow Chess website where I just added a txt file (http://www.3dkingdoms.com/chess/whatnew.txt) explaining some of the changes.

If you use ponder on with Slow Chess WV, you'll want to redownload it from the page, as the first release had a bug that could cause it to crash.

(Specifically it used its move gen to get the SAN notation PV, and when getting the PV when pondering it would use the current game board instead of the board it was pondering on, and the do move has validation checking, and will cause the program to exit if an invalid move is executed.)

Time management

Postby Patrick Buchmann » 05 Mar 2005, 10:57

Hi Jon,

SlowChess Blitz WV has a problem with time management.

Under Shredder Classic GUI, 40 moves in 10 minutes + 10 minutes, he uses many time in the 41th move and lose on time later.

Exemple:

Thanks for the bug report.
I guess 40 moves in 10 minutes + 10 minutes, means 10 minutes for the first 40 moves and 10 for the rest of the game? I don't have the Shredder GUI, Can this time control be setup in the Fritz GUI? Or does anyone know what is sent to the engine for this time control? I look into it sometime in the next few days.

Edit: I just tested and I can reproduce this problem with the Fritz GUI, so I'll be able to fix it.

Hi Jon,

The tournament is finished.

I repeat all the games with the old *.exe of SlowChess Blitz WV.

SlowChess Blitz WV finished in the third place, equality with AnMon 5.50, second.
