OT: Complaint to my hoster

Some of you may have noticed that this forum isn't reachable several times daily for a shorter or longer period of time. It has been most annoying at Easter when it wasn't reachable for hours.

The hoster send an explanation to me that they have updated their servers. However, I've noticed that there isn't a single day without blackouts. This behaviour is bothersome and not acceptable at all.

If they can't find a solution this forum is going to move again.

If someone notice the forum is not reachable (even only for minutes), please just write it down here in this thread. Please also tell us what browser and operating system you are using.

Just had problems connecting to this site. It took 3 connection attempts before success.

I'm using Win XP SP2 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 browser on a 512Kb broadband line.

Its 8PM Sydney time (that's GMT+10)

I tried a couple of times during the last 2 hours, and failed until now. Perhaps the following traceroute outputs can be useful. Times were bad at the first try - I was downloading then with the modem.

I also noticed this new blackout which lastet approximately two hours. I neither got an announcement that the server was updated nor any other notification from thwe hoster. This is not acceptable at all.

I'm going to search for an alternative.

My hoster just informed me that the blackout was a result of a DDoS attack. So it seems the hoster is not accountable for the blackout.

if that was true there must have been here a lot of DDoS attacks during the last time. As far as I know such attacks mostly have been directed to big and well known companies. Is your hoster one of them?

It's a medium sized Swiss/German company (Dynamic-net). It's recommended here: http://www.ayom.com/topic-796.html. Such attacks have been performed also on the servers of one of the other mentioned companies. To execute such an attack seems not to be very complicated. Search a bit and you will find instructions how to do it. In additon the attacker isn't easy to get. Remember also this forum has been cracked some weeks ago.

However, if the short-time blackouts continue I have to look for an alternative. Unfortunately offers with a guaranteed up-time are much more expensive and I have no intention to go commercial in one form or another.
